At the Prototype Cup Europe’s debut at Mugello, the German Motor Sports Team impressed with fast lap times and a podium finish.
The Prototype Cup Europe made its debut at Mugello. The German Motor Sports Team took part in the race weekend in Tuscany with a Ligier JS P325, which was managed by GEBHARDT Motorsport. Valentino Catalano and Jacob Erlbacher drove the car on the world-famous MotoGP circuit.
Catalano started the first race on Saturday morning from third on the grid. Throughout the race, the car was repeatedly involved in thrilling battles, but ultimately delivered a strong result. Jacob Erlbacher crossed the finish line in third place after 30 laps. This means the GMS team can celebrate a podium finish straight away in the first race in the history of the Prototype Cup Europe.

The second race on Sunday proved more difficult for the team. In the early stages, Jacob Erlbacher spun and dropped to the back of the field. A shrewd strategy and high speed from Valentino Catalano, who was the fastest car on the track during the second stint, helped Catalano fight his way back up to fifth place.
After two of eight races, Catalano and Erlbacher occupy fifth place in the Prototype Cup Europe championship standings.
“We went into the weekend without high expectations, as the car was new to us drivers and the team,” said Valentino Catalano. “Nevertheless, we managed to secure a decent result. Being the fastest car on the track during my stint in the second race felt like a small victory. We will continue to work hard to unlock the car’s full potential!”
The Prototype Cup Europe continues at the Nürburgring on the first weekend in July. In collaboration with GEBHARDT Motorsport, the German Motor Sports Team will be working hard in the run-up to the event to fight for top results there.
