Marco Fink won the first race of the Velom Sportscar Supercup powered by Interwetten SCC in commanding fashion.
Under bright sunshine and perfect weather conditions, the first round of the Velom Sportscar Supercup powered by Interwetten SCC got underway at the ADAC Hockenheim Historic. In the morning qualifying session, Marco Fink secured pole position ahead of former Formula 1 driver Christian Klien from Austria.
In his Nova Proto/NP01 SE92 – powered by a brutal BMW engine – Fink dominated the race from the front of the grid. The successful veteran controlled the first race in front of a lively grandstand and ultimately drove to a commanding victory. Christian Klien was forced to retire his WPR 66 into the pits at the end of the first lap due to technical problems.
Behind Fink, Sven Barth finished second in his Ginetta G61-LT-P3. On his first race weekend with his own team, he was the highest-placed P3 prototype in the field. Michael Herich followed in third place in the Duqueine from GEBHARDT Motorsport.

With a Porsche 962, GEBHARDT Motorsport provided one of the absolute highlights in a colourful starting field and is using the event at Hockenheim as a test ahead of Le Mans Classic in July. Michael Lyons finished the race in fourth place. The young Swede Emma Wigroth finished fifth in another Duqueine from the Sinsheim-based team on her prototype debut and took third place in her class.
One of the highlights on the track was the battle for the lead in the Open/2 class, where former WTCC driver Diego Romanini battled it out with Enja Rössler. Around twelve minutes before the end of the race, Rössler spun off the track, triggering a neutralisation. And the race for former touring car driver Romanini was far from uneventful either: as the Italian lost fluid following a problem and spun off the track, the race had to be brought to a premature end with the red flag shortly before the scheduled finish. Nevertheless, Romanini was classified in the top position in his class – with the fast female driver Jasmin Fiedler finishing second following Enja Rössler’s misfortune.

Tomorrow, Sunday, the Velom Sportscar Supercup powered by Interwetten SCC will hold another qualifying session and another half-hour race at the ADAC Hockenheim Historic. The race will once again be broadcast via the official livestream on YouTube.
