GEBHARDT Motorsport secured a one-two finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
The IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge kicked off the second half of its season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. GEBHARDT Motorsport, based in Sinsheim, fielded two Duqueine D09 for Oscar Tunjo and Danny Soufi.
Ahead of the event at the Bowmanville circuit, Tunjo led the championship ahead of his team-mate Soufi. Having won the sole race at the historic circuit the previous year, Fritz Gebhardt’s team travelled to the Canadian round full of confidence.

Oscar Tunjo was involved in a thrilling battle for victory during the race. However, the Colombian was narrowly beaten on the track by Wyatt Brichacek; yet Brichacek received a 10-second time penalty after the race, meaning Tunjo was declared the winner. Danny Soufi was consequently awarded second place, allowing GEBHARDT Motorsport to celebrate a one-two finish.
In the second race, Tunjo and Soufi were classified in second and fourth places respectively, meaning both drivers were able to secure vital points for the championship.
With 3,620 points, Oscar Tunjo extended his lead at the top of the standings. In the overall standings, Tunjo holds a 460-point lead over his team-mate Danny Soufi. GEBHARDT Motorsport USA, with car number #1, also leads the team standings. Tunjo is also in the lead in both the Sprint and Endurance class standings.

“During the race weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, it was clear to see that the standard in the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge has risen significantly this year. However, we focused on doing a flawless job, which paid off in the first race with a one-two finish. In the second race, we were able to secure important points,” said team owner Fritz Gebhardt.
The IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge continues from 14–16 August at the historic Road America circuit. The final race weekend of the IMSA Airbnb Endurance Challenge will be held there.
