For the third race weekend of the Prototype Cup Europe at Monza, the GMS Team will field a second LMP3 car.
Third race weekend of the Prototype Cup Europe. The European LMP3 series is making a stop at the high-speed circuit in Monza, where the series will compete alongside the Eurocup3, amongst others. GEBHARDT Motorsport is managing the GMS Team’s campaign, which is fielding two LMP3 prototypes for the first time. Alongside the Ligier JS P325, the team is fielding a Duqueine D09.
Valentino Catalano and Danny Soufi are once again at the wheel of the team’s Ligier JS P325. At the Nürburgring, the German Motor Sports Team, with Catalano and Soufi, celebrated its first overall victory in the newly established series. In the second race in the Eifel, the duo finished in second place, despite spinning out in the first corner and falling far behind.
Furthermore, at Monza, the GMS Team will be fielding a Duqueine D09 for the first time – a car with which GEBHARDT Motorsport has already gained considerable experience in the IMSA VP SportsCar Challenge and the Michelin Le Mans Cup. The car is the former entry of the Koiranen Kemppi team from Finland, which has recently been converted to the Gen. 3 specification for LMP3 prototypes. Oscar Tunjo and American driver Jake Williamson will be at the wheel.
Ahead of the third round at Monza, Valentino Catalano lies second in the Prototype Cup Europe standings, currently 14 points behind the leader. The GMS Team also occupies second place in the team standings.
We’re looking forward to the event at Monza. For the first time, we’ll be fielding two cars in the Prototype Cup Europe. We’re already familiar with the Duqueine from our programmes in the US and Europe, so we’re approaching the event with determination. We want to close the gap on Valentino in the championship and, ideally, take the lead,” said Fritz Gebhardt ahead of the race weekend at the circuit near Milan.
During Wednesday’s test sessions, GEBHARDT Motorsport fielded a third car for Swedish driver Emma Wigroth, who was preparing at Monza for the second half of the season in the Interwetten Sports Car Challenge.
The Prototype Cup Europe will hold two 55-minute races at Monza, starting at 14:10 on Saturday and 14:05 on Sunday. Both races will be broadcast live via the official livestream.
