German Motor Sports Team driver Valentino Catalano heads to Spa-Francorchamps for the Prototype Cup Europe season finale as the championship leader.
The debut season of the Prototype Cup Europe concludes on the Ardennes rollercoaster circuit at Spa-Francorchamps. With the support of GEBHARDT Motorsport, the GMS Team will field two Ligier JS P325s at the historic Belgian circuit.
Having secured two race wins and two second-place finishes this season, Valentino Catalano heads to Belgium as championship leader. Following his title victories in the 2024 Prototype Cup Germany and the 2025 IMSA VP Sports Car Championship, Catalano is now chasing his third major title in LMP3 racing. He shares the car with Danny Soufi, who has been racing alongside Catalano since the second race weekend. Thanks to their successful season, Catalano and Soufi have also played a major part in ensuring that the GMS Team sits at the top of the team standings.
The team will field a total of two Ligier JS P325s in the Ardennes. Oscar Tunjo and Jake Williamson will drive the team’s second car, aiming to provide the best possible support to the sister car in the title race.
Should Catalano win the title, an attractive prize awaits the GMS Team. A starting place in the 2027 Michelin Le Mans Cup – the world’s most important and largest LMP3 series – will be reserved for the Prototype Cup Europe champion. The Michelin Le Mans Cup will be held over five race weekends as part of the European Le Mans Series support programme and will also feature a three-hour race as part of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
“Our goal for the event at Spa-Francorchamps is very clear: we want to secure the drivers’ and teams’ titles. In the past two events, Valentino and Danny showed great pace, which we aim to replicate at Spa-Francorchamps. After Oscar and Jake recently struggled with technical issues at Monza, they will be switching to a Ligier for the season finale. We realise it won’t be an easy task, but I’m confident that with a flawless performance, we’ll have a good chance of winning the titles,” said Fritz Gebhardt.
The Prototype Cup Europe season finale will take place as part of the 992 Endurance Cup, meaning both races will be held on Friday 4 September. The races start at 12.55 pm and 5.20 pm and can be watched on YouTube.
