GEBHARDT Motorsport is ready for the third sprint weekend of the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge at Mid-Ohio.
The competitors in the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge are ready for their first sprint weekend in around three months. The American sports car series is set to get underway at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. GEBHARDT Motorsport from Sinsheim will be competing with two Duqueine LMP3 prototypes.
Following the revelation over the past few race weekends that the third-generation LMP3 cars are now superior to the older V8 machines, the German racing team is upgrading its fleet. Oscar Tunjo and Danny Soufi will be driving the Duqueine D09 for the first time at Mid-Ohio.
Whilst Soufi’s car has been converted from a D08 to a D09, Tunjo has been given a loan car from Duqueine, provided by the American Forbusch team. His car was converted in France and is being tested by Valentino Catalano before being shipped to the USA, where it will be available to him from the next race in Virginia.

GEBHARDT Motorsport heads to the legendary circuit in Lexington with fond memories: last year, Colombian driver Oscar Tunjo secured his first victory there with the German team.
In the overall standings of the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, which encompasses both sprint and endurance races, Tunjo leads the championship after six races. Danny Soufi occupies third place in the team’s second car. In the separate sprint race standings, the GEBHARDT Motorsport drivers even hold a one-two lead. “Given the current performance levels of the Gen2 and Gen3 LMP3 prototypes, we felt compelled to switch to the new Duqueine D09. We are already familiar with the car from last year’s Michelin Le Mans Cup, where Oscar also drove for us and Danny made a guest appearance, so neither of them should need much time to get used to it. Our goal remains to defend last year’s titles,” said team boss Fritz Gebhardt.
The IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge will hold two 45-minute sprint races at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The two races will start on 6 June at 18:45 German time and on 7 June at 14:00 German time. Both races can be watched via livestream on the official IMSA channel on YouTube.
